Overview
Installed 26.4 kW at Werribee & 34kW system in Brunswick helping offset the majority of their daytime electricity costs both seeing a ROI better than 2 years.
Solution
To address their energy needs, we installed a 26.4 kW and 34kW solar system designed to optimise energy consumption and significantly cut electricity costs.
Solar energy is a great fit for childcare centres for a lot of practical, economic, and environmental reasons. Childcare centres need consistent indoor temperatures to keep children safe and comfortable. Solar panels paired with energy-efficient HVAC systems can help run air conditioning and heating more affordably. During hot summer or cold winter days, solar helps maintain a cozy environment without spiking energy bills.
Devices like tablets, computers, security systems, and learning aids are part of daily operations. Solar energy can reliably power all electronics, helping centres stay tech-friendly and educational without the burden of high utility bills.
Results
- Monthly Savings: 1,600 per month across both sites
- Annual Savings: $13,000 Brunswick + $7,000 Werribee
- Return on Investment (ROI): 1 year 8 months
- Energy Independence: 75% less reliant on the grid for the power demands
- Sustainability: over 80 tonnes worth of CO2 offset per annum
Why Childcare Locations Should Consider Solar
Childcares are an almost perfect fit to a solar systems production profile. A lot of daytime usage as most are open weekdays from 8am – 5.30pm. Solar production time is generally between 8am-5pm. Being able to produce their own power at a much cheaper rate than their daytime electricity bills especially when most are on a small market contract with peak cost of power well over the 35c/kw peak rates. Comparatively, a solar system will produce power at less than 10c/kw.
Using solar sets a great example for kids about caring for the environment. It’s also a chance to introduce fun, age-appropriate learning activities around renewable energy and sustainability.
